2006/2007
proved to be a very successful season for Oatlands u14 Gaelic
footballers, winning a Dublin championship and losing narrowly in
the Leinster Final.
After the Dublin
campaign, Oatlands prepared well for the Leinster Semi-Final against
Heywood C.S., winning on a score line of 7-7- to 1-8. Giovanni
Bocarrossa, Ryan Moore and Kevin Murphy were the stars on the day,
scoring 7 goals between them. Thomas Clarke, Ronan Carney and Paul
Sheridan provided excellent service for the forwards and worked
tirelessly throughout the game. Goalkeeper Oisin Geoghegan was
arguably Man of the Match, producing some outstanding saves.
In a tough Leinster
Final, played in very windy conditions, Oatlands started well
leading 1-8 to 0-2 at halftime. Banagher College stormed back with 3
goals in an extremely exciting second half with Oatlands unlucky to
lose out by 2 points. Backs Jamie Fernandez, David Devereux repelled
countless attacks, capably assisted by John Huban and Sean Mahon.
Ronan Carney, Jack Memery and James Kavanagh worked hard, setting up
several scoring chances which unfortunately Oatlands were unable to
convert.
Overall this panel can
be very proud of their efforts this year, winning a Dublin. If all
players keep showing the same levels of commitment, the future looks
bright for Oatlands College.
