Delphi
Adventure Centre
It was a cold
September morning in Heuston Station, and the calm that filled
the air was to be broken by the sound of sixty or so Oatlands
Transition year students as they filed onto a train heading for
Westport . Everyone was in high spirits as the promise of an
Adventure Centre for three days was something to look forward
to.
And what was
there not to love? The beautiful scenic views, the calm surreal
setting, not to mention kayaking, surfing, canoeing, rock
climbing ,archery , an array of team activities and of course
ziplining!!!
Spirits could not
be broken even when bog walking through the remnants of sheep
and other animals claimed by the bog. There was a vast array of
(colourful) Oatlands songs to be heard as we marched down
through the forest.
Overall a
fantastic trip that will not be easily forgotten. My only wish
is that we had stayed longer.
Set in the
beautiful Delphi valley on the coast of Mayo, Delphi adventure
centre is ideally situated for a perfect week away.
Upon arriving in
Delphi we were greeted by the friendly and helpful staff and the
warm smell of chicken soup for lunch. Then we were straight into
the activities which for me meant kayaking. This was one of the
best parts of the trip because as well as kayaking we went pier
jumping. When we got back from our activity we had an hour to
ourselves, and then dinner.
We were told to be
in bed by 10.30 and asleep by 11.
We were woken at
8, had breakfast at 8.30 and then the day followed the same
pattern as the day before for the next 2 days. During this time
we went surfing, rock climbing (indoor and outdoor) and
canoeing. We also went on a night time hill walk and we did
archery and team tasks.
On Friday we had
another activity, an early lunch and then headed back to Dublin.
In summary Delphi
was brilliant and I would go back
