Prize Night 2007

Prize Night took place on Monday 14th May with Special Guest His Excellency Richard Ryan, Irish Ambassador to the Netherlands, who is a past pupil of the College. Mr. Ryan spoke eloquently of his time at Oatlands which retains a special magic for him. He also took us though a brief resume of a career which has taken him all around the world and seen him rise to the highest levels of international diplomacy such as the time he spent as Ireland’s representative at the U.N. during our Presidency of the Security Council. Not bad for someone who set off for Tokyo with his wife and two pairs of chopsticks!

It was a night when another outstanding year of achievement at Oatlands in the Academic, Cultural and Sporting spheres, was recognised. The sports field yielded a Leinster title in U13 Soccer, Dublin Championships in U-18 Hurling and U-14 Gaelic Football as well as a number of notable individual achievements while a stunning production of the musical Grease, initiatives in forging links with schools in India, Israel, Palestine and Belfast were but a few of the many other notable developments marking the academic year at Oatlands. Ciaran Judge was named as Student of the Year with Niall Butler taking the Sport Star of the Year Award. Aneurin Moorthy took the Michael P. Courtney Memorial Award for Academic Excellence and Ian French was the recipient of the Summa Cum Laude Award for his outstanding results in the 2006 Leaving Certificate. Leadership Awards went to Mark Cahill,  Andrew Dunn, Gary Fitzpatrick and John Kelly.
