U16 Gaelic football

After some terrific performances so far this year, Oatlands have qualified for the Dublin semi-final after the Christmas break. Oatlands first outing was against Old Bawn and in a keenly contested game Oatlands prevailed on a score line of 1-15 to 2-10. Stars on the day were Andrew O’Malley and David Devereux in defence, Mark Kavanagh and an excellent performance from Ken Kelly scoring 1-6.

This result was followed up with a good victory over Leixlip and a crucial win against a strong Salesians Celbridge team. The foundation for these victories has been built from a strong defence, with Jamie Fernandez, Mark Hanratty, Ian Goulding and Dillon Mulligan outstanding. Jack Memery has formed a strong midfield partnership with Ronan Carney, providing a good supply of possession for attackers James and Mark Kavanagh to dominate.

The only defeat so far was a one point loss against an excellent Maynooth PP team. In a high quality game, a last minute goal from Maynooth gave them the spoils on the day. Qualification to the semi-final was sealed with an impressive 4-17 to 2-10 victory over Drimnagh Castle. Paul Sheridan (1-1), JJ Shovlin, Gio Boccarosa (1-2) and Conor O’Byrne (0-2) all put in good performances.

The team now prepare for a tough semi-final against Skerries, but with competition for places on the team and the panel hotting up, a good performance will be expected.

 Soccer Review

Four games, three victories, one draw, twenty-two goals. That is how the Oatlands College U14 soccer team have kicked off their season. After a 2 – 2 draw with Marian College in the first game of the season, the U14 team convincingly beat St. Laurence’s College 8 – 2 away from home and then came from behind three times to beat St. Mark’s C.S., Tallaght 5 – 4 at home and qualify for the quarter finals of the league. In the cup, they were victorious against Leixlip Confey, winning a fast-paced match 7 – 2.

Star players so far have included leading goal scorer Daniel O’Leary, midfield enforcers Robert Gaughan and Conor Kilkenny, and star winger Robert Campbell, who has terrorised every defence he has attacked. The team has settled in well under the tutelage of Mr. Wiley and Mr. Connor and looks set for a good run in both competitions.

Best of luck to the College U18 Soccer team who have qualified for the Leinster cup quarter final, due to be played on Tuesday 16th of December.
