During February mid-term
break 2010, Daniel Egan and Dillon Mulligan joined two other
students from Dublin on a unique experience. They travelled
with the Schools Across Borders team to Israel and
Palestine. This was the first time that any Irish students
visited both Israeli and Palestinian students.
Both Daniel and Dillon
had participated in the Schools Across Borders project which
aims to bring young people together from Ireland, North and
South, and Israel and Palestine. Daniel and Dillon met with
the Israeli students in Jerusalem and the Palestinian
students in Hebron, staying at the students' homes and
visiting their schools.
They also got to see for
themselves what life is like in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and
Hebron, visiting the holy sites and seeing the effects of
the conflict on people living there.
This trip was an
experience of a lifetime for both students. To quote Daniel:
The whole experience and the new friends I have made are
something that I will keep in my heart for years to come and
later on in life I know that it will affect the way I live
and the decisions that I will make.
And Dillon: This trip
has really been an eye opening experience. I learned a lot
about the world and a lot about myself. The things I learned
on this trip will stay with me forever.
