The death has occurred of Mr. Padraig Heeran who joined the teaching staff of Oatlands College in 1955-56 at the time the original Secondary school building was opened in April 1956. Padraig, who was known to all students as "Frenchie" continued to teach in Oatlands until 1972 when he was appointed as the first Principal of the brand new model within Irish education "The Community School" in Tallaght.

Padraig maintained very warm relations with both Oatlands College, his former teaching colleagues and former past pupils over the years since he laft his teaching position in the school. He attended a past pupils dinner a number of years ago where he met a wide range of his former students. In June 2015 he visited the college to meet the Principal Caroline Garrett and then Deputy Principal Brian Kehoe and spoke to them at length about the early years of the schools existence.

Padraig is Reposing today Thursday (June 23) at his home from 5.00 until 8.00pm. Removal on Friday morning to the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, Balally, arriving at 9.50am for 10am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Kilternan Park Cemetery.

On behalf of the school we express our deepest sympathies to Pardaig's widow Josie and his children  Mary, Fran and John.

We will welcome those with memories of Padraig during his Oatlands years, who wish to share them with us.
