The TY class of 2014/15 kicked off in great style at Carlingford Lough Adventure Centre. This was an induction trip where the boys got to develop their social skills and team building/bonding skills. The TYs had the trip of a lifetime to Rome before the Easter break. The boys spent 4 days in Rome, visiting such sites as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Catacombs, St Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the Forum and many more. A big thank you to Mr. Ellis, Mr. Bonfil and Mr. Kelly who organised and supervised the trip. See all the photos from the trip on the Oatlands Flickr page.

TYs went on their Gaisce trip to Glendalough over the first weekend in April. 34 students went on the trip and completed a 25km hike through the hills of Glendalough. This was the last of the criteria to be completed for the bronze Gaisce medal. A big thank you to Mr. Cullen, Ms. Mullen, Ms. Harrington, Ms. Hare and Ms. O Reilly who were the Pals that guided the students throughout the year and in Glendalough. Untitled Untitled

TYs braved the elements on the 19th March on the West Pier of Dun Laoghaire to sail, kayak and raft build. The boys had an excellent day despite the chilly water temperature. Thank you to Kenneth Rumball and all the team down there for looking after us so well. More pictures on the Oatlands Flickr page.

Things are hotting up in the TY Musical with a sneak preview given on Sunday to Parents and visitors to Oatlands College for the Open Day.  Some students performed a medley of songs from the upcoming musical Les Miserables.  If this sneek peak is anything to go by the musical is sure to be a success.

On the 4th of February, Transition Year groups 2 and 3 went to Mondello racing course as part of their Early Learning driving module.

The day started with the party being split into 3 groups. One group went out onto the track and got firsthand experience at the wheel of the car. The second group got a guided tour of the Mondello Park museum, which included several antique road and racing cars, even some formula 1 cars! The last group went through a helpful theory test and watched several informative videos on the dangers of drunk driving as well as aggressive driving. The groups all rotated one and a half hours.

At the end there was a braking test where a driving instructor drove at 50 and 100 km/ph and braked at a line and the students had to guess where the car would skid to a halt.

However, the highlight of the day for everyone was the driving, the first time for many of the students. Some were naturals and others learnt quickly but all enjoyed the day a lot.

It was a memorable moment for all transition years and a great learning experience.
