Oatlands College curriculum

In our curriculum at Oatlands we ensure that traditional standards of excellence are maintained. We also recognise, however, the importance of catering for the diverse needs of students in a rapidly changing world.

Oatlands College follows curricular programmes laid down by the Department of Education and Skills. These may be amended from time to time in accordance with the Education Act, 1998, Sections 9 and 30.

 

     Junior Cycle:

                        

First Year: All students take the following subjects:

                        

Core: Irish, (excepting cases where an official exemption applies under formal DES Guidelines), English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, C.S.P.E,      S.P.H.E, Religion, Business, Technical Graphics, Technology, P.E., French, German, Art.

Modules: Music, Computer Studies, Aquatic Studies, and Speech and Drama.

 

Second and Third Year:

Core: Irish, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, C.S.P.E., S.P.H.E., Religion, P.E. and

A selection from: Business, Technical Graphics, Technology, French, German, Art, Music, Computer Studies, and Speech and Drama.

 

The school’s capacity to offer a particular non-core subject will depend on the resources available to the school and on the level of demand for that subject in any particular year.

                     

Where applications for a particular subject exceed the number of places available, places will be offered on the basis of when preferences were expressed in writing to the Deputy Principal.

                    

The Board of Management reserves the right to amend these provisions on an annual basis.
