The
extra-curricular life of the College is designed to promote the creative
and rewarding use of leisure time through involvement in sporting and
cultural activities. The collaboration and team spirit which these
activities generate help to counterbalance the over-emphasis on
individualism which the points' system tends to promote.
Extra-Curricular
Activities:
Students are invited and
encouraged to participate in a wide variety of sports and other
activities. Each year, the school competes in inter-school competitions
in Hurling, Gaelic Football, Basketball, Soccer, Athletics, Rugby,
Archery, Judo, Golf, Chess, and Badminton.
Teams enter Business Quiz
Competitions, Inter-School Debate Competitions, Student Enterprise
Awards, the Young Scientists’ Competition, Young Social Innovators,
Build a Bank, and Edmund Rice Awards. Students also participate in
Schools Across Borders, and the Zambia Immersion Programme.
Each year a College Musical is
performed by Transition Year students in association with the girls from
Sion Hill. Talent Shows are held on a regular basis.
There is an annual School Tour
in Transition Year to a continental destination (subject to sufficient
uptake). Students regularly participate in cultural and educational
outings. Transition Year students may complete the ECDL Computer Course
and Oatlands College is a recognised accrediting centre.
