Prize-Giving is one of the highlights of the school
year at Oatlands. It is now a well established practice that a well known personality is
invited as Guest of Honour. Guests of Honour over the years have included four former
Taoisigh Mr Jack Lynch, Mr Garrett Fitzgerald and Mr Albert Reynolds Mr John
Hume, Ms Mary Harney, Senator Feargal Quinn, the late Senator Gordon Wilson and many other
major national figures.
Our Prize-Giving symbolises the educational philosophy
of the College which is to promote and support the development of the whole person. The
annual ceremony reflects the value we place on academic excellence but it also indicates
the vital importance we attach to developing the talents of our students in areas such as
sport, music and art. Leadership, service to others and team-work are essential elements
in the life of the school community, and their significance is underlined in the major
awards presented each year: The Student of the Year Award; The Sports Star of the Year
Award; The Leadership Awards and the Principal's Awards.
